About the documentary

We focused on the Copley Square Farmers Market to communicate the issue of food insecurity in Boston. This market is known to be one of the largest and busiest since it is located in the heart of Back Bay, a very well-known area to locals. This market has over three dozen farmers and producers, giving customers plenty of options to choose from. The market accepts cash, credit/debit cards, WIC/senior coupons, and most importantly EBT cards.

Throughout the documentary, we highlight the accessibility of SNAP and how people can get SNAP, and the steps it takes to become a SNAP user.

We spoke to many vendors at the market and asked questions about their products, their opinion on SNAP, and how SNAP has helped their businesses grow.

Our Story

In our senior year at Emerson College, we began filming this documentary as a result of a semester-long project for our Enterprise Journalism class. As journalism majors, we wanted to focus on a prominent topic in Boston, Massachusetts.

Food insecurity can affect anyone and the main goal of our documentary is to shine a light on that and provide helpful resources that the community around us clearly needs.

We consider it important to garner awareness on the issue and help diminish the stigma surrounding food insecurity. Hunger is not a personal failure, there are many political factors at play that influence a person's ability to obtain nutritious food.
